How can a somatic practice help?

You probably didn’t decide where to put your feet as you began reading this.

Even if I told you that where your feet are right now impacts your posture,

that your posture impacts your breath, and that your breath affects not only your voice,

but the way you think— it is unlikely that you would remember all of that

throughout the next conversation you have.

During the 2 years that I worked as a voice instructor at Seattle Voice Lab,

I had the honor of meeting over 200 trans women stepping bravely

into the process of feminizing their voice.

I also created two separate curriculums for Seattle Voice Lab:

Public Speaking and Integrated Voice

because as a company, we saw time and again how challenging it was for students to take

their new skills out into the world and use them in ways that felt satisfying and honest.

Somatics were a vital component of both curriculums

because the mental and physical coordination it takes to not only learn a new voice—

but think in a new voice— requires a level of sensory awareness that has been

trained out of most of us during the socialization process.

Reclaiming agency over your senses is surprisingly liberating and can be learned through

paying closer, and kinder, attention to the way you move.

If you would like to use our private sessions

to find a voice that matches the way you feel on the inside—

instead of the one your unherited from the culture,

I will guide you through the process of modifying your voice safely and effectively

using the reliable methods that I was trained in through Seattle Voice Lab.

But I will supplement the process with weekly audio lessons to help you

learn to bring more of your senses into focus.

HERE is a free example for you to try.

We will also cover some of the more nuanced aspects of vocal modification like word choice, inflection, the art of 'unlearning' and self image —

so that the voice you find is not only one that you pass with,

but one you identify with too.
